Her dad looked away as if ashamed, or yet fearful of his daughter. He looked upon the floor and swiftly turned on his heel, striding away head bowed shamefully. He only once looked up to open the double doors in front of him. he did not turn, he did not glance back at her, he momentarily paused, as if contemplating his next actions. She stood watching him vigil, alone, she had to be strong, even when nobody stood beside her. Yet a glimmer of hope arose in her as he paused in the door way. Would he turn back for her? would he accept her? would he turn at the sake of his faith, his religion, his moral code? No. she knew the outcome before the future had been spun, she sunk inside herself, she knew all too well that was too much for anyone to ask. With that sinking feeling, she heard the doors ahead of her slam shut. Silence invaded the room, outcasting any thoughts of hope. She was alone, she now had to face an army of degenerate foes. With a mark upon her, she had grown up to know as devil’s play, a darkness never to be surrounded by.

“Are you ready?” the man who stood silently behind her spoke.

Her eyes spun into his gaze, her breath caught, she was terrified. With all the strength she could gather she nodded. He seemed relived and bowed his head curls of white hair spilling over his robe. gracefully he moved beside her, head still bowed.

“From this moment, you will no longer be looked upon by mortals, your souls, your very essence has been changed. Any mortal to look upon you will be diseased by plague, death inevitable. Heed my warning, and stey away from the world as you know it, only death will follow.

she sucked in a large breath, tears welled around the rims of her eyes, daring to spill out and drown her face in sorrow. She had not chosen this, she did not want this. Her own father abandon her, when she would of asked for her own death, rather than live the life she was about to be thrown into. Deep inside she begged mercy from her god. asking her life be ended, so that maybe her soul could be washed away from the wickedness overtaking her. The man then looked up eyes burning, and teeth grinding in anger. She jumped back with shock.

“You know nothing of this world, the life that has chosen you is only a vessel harnessing the light of the new world, the uncorrupted soul that will lead to our salvation! Do you understand me girl?” He yelled with an unquivering passion.

She could only nod. Not understanding the words he spoke. She stood up straight, ignoring her will to be stubborn and rebel against this mans words. The man settled down, furry fading from his eyes, replaced by a softness, that was strangely comforting to her, as if she could relate to this strange man.

The man now turned his back to the girl, digging for something in his old leather pack. He then turned around to the girl again, holding in his hands a silver wooden box with symbols and carvings imprinted into the box, it was beautiful. The man whispered into his hands, in doing so the air around them grew cold and a breeze danced playfully between them, the box began to open, a dazzling blue light emerged from the box, trancing the girl with both awe and wonder, she instinctively moved closer longing to see the contents of the box. The blue light faded as she drew nearer, her eyes adjusted as she reached up to grasp what was inside the box. The man flinched as if he wanted to hide the box from her, yet he remained still allowing her to take the sliver box’s contents. She drew out a short gold chain, attracted to it was a large carving, as she peered closer she then knew what it was. It was a necklace, with a dragon carved from black gold. His narrow slender body wrapped itself around the gold chain, his face fierce with a set of powerful jaws and rippling muscles, he was magnificent. She had an overwhelming sense of protectiveness over this artifact, as if this belonged to her and it’s value was priceless, automatically she clutched it to herself. As she did she felt heat rise from the pendent and into her palm flowing out of her fingers. In the same instant that feeling was gone.
